The City of Poth is currently accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the police department, provide patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention, enforce all laws and ordinances and be responsible for public health and safety. Must be community oriented, have strong public relations skills, strong work ethics, must be physically fit and maintain a professional image while in uniform. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid Class C or higher Texas Driver’s License. Must be TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer certified and have at least 5 years of experience with law enforcement agency; SWAT, Gang Unit, Narcotics or Detective experience a plus, pass a thorough background check investigation with drug screen and credit check. The City offers benefit package with retirement plan and medical insurance. Salary dependent on qualifications. EOE. April Renee (Weaver) Rangel passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, in Decatur, Ala., at the age of 38 years, 3 months, and 5 days. She was born on May 15, 1973, in San Pedro, Calif., to Susan Boyd and Leroy C. Weaver Sr.

April was a resident of Decatur for five years and was a former resident of Stockdale, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Merced E. Rangel of Decatur; her father, Leroy C. Weaver Sr.; her mother, Susan Boyd Weaver; daughters Adriane Weaver Pena and Hope Shelby Rangel; a brother, Leroy Weaver Jr. of Stockdale; sisters Cynthia Hunter and Lisa Weaver Hammonds, both of San Antonio, Texas, and Ronda Harlow of Decatur; brothers-in-law Bill Harlow of Decatur and Pedro Rangel of San Antonio; sisters-in-law Margie Rangel of Stockdale and Michelle Torres of Freeport; grandchildren Santos Pena and Ella Pena, both of Decatur; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs.
