FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville High School freshman Tiger football team has gotten off to a great start in 2011, having won its first two games over Highlands and Lanier.

The Tigers earned their first season win Aug. 25 with a 32-0 win over the Highlands Owls.

The Floresville offensive effort was led by Austin Aikens with three touchdowns on runs of 20, 10, and 6 yards. Lorenzo Neaves scored on a 15-yard run, and Xavier Cantwell added a 7-yard score. Tyler Mazur and Joshua Jeffreys added an extra point each.

The defense smothered the Owls the entire night, not allowing them to get anywhere near the end zone. Leading the defensive attack were Aikens, Jeffreys, Jody Trevino, Manuel Macias, Dadrian Contreras, and Dillon Gaither. Jacob Sendejo caused a fumble and Corey Opiela made the recovery. Luke Smith made an interception to end the game.

The Tigers played Lanier Sept. 1, and raced past the Voks with a 26-0 victory.

The Tiger offense scored early on big runs by Aikens from 53 and 61 yards. Jeffreys and Macias added touchdowns of 3 and 5 yards, respectively. Tyler Masur and Jeffreys added an extra point each.

The defense once again dominated with its second straight shutout. Leading the way were Contreras, who caused a fumble, and Lorenzo Neaves, who made the recovery. Aikens recovered another fumble, Jared Morin and Matthew Pollok each recorded an interception, and Luke Smith and C.J. Felux each had a pass breakup.

The Tigers will host Brackenridge this Thursday at Eschenburg Field. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
