ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. John Howard “Doc” Farris Jr., a resident of Poth, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the age of 80 years, 6 months, and 27 days. John was born on Feb. 4, 1931, in El Paso.

He graduated from Burbank High School and attended Texas A&I University. Doc was a proud graduate of Texas A&M Veterinarian Medical School, class of 1960. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Doc enjoyed animals, reading, and visiting with friends casually.

Doc is survived by his longtime friend, Shirley Cheatwood; his sons, Rip Farris, Jim Farris, Corky Farris, Mark Farris, and Brad Farris; his grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Douglas, and Travis; and his great-grandson, John Reid or “Cinco” as Doc loved to call him.

A graveside funeral service, with military honors, was held Monday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, followed by interment.

Following interment, a celebration of life memorial was held at his grandson and wife Valerie’s home.
