1932-2011

Baldemar M. Treviño, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest, surrounded by his family, Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at 5 p.m. in his residence in Floresville, at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 25 days. Balde was born June 3, 1932, in Floresville, the son of Gabriel and Maria Munoz Treviño.

He married Lupe Ramirez on Dec. 26, 1954, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. His career as a painter will never be forgotten. For many years, Balde and his five brothers worked for Ray Ellison. Even after his retirement, he would still get phone calls to go out and do paint jobs. He would never let his family paint on their own and would always insist on doing their painting for them. Now we are so thankful for that because we have things he painted with his very own hands, his family said. His son, Benedict “Dico,” has followed in his footsteps and carries on what Balde loved to do the most. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He left for war alongside some boys from Wilson County who had little in common. They returned home lifelong friends, serving together for years to come in the VFW Post 8555 and throughout their community. Balde was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Henry, Gabriel, Joe, Rudy, and Arthur Treviño; and sisters Aurora Servantes and Vangie Garza.

Balde is survived by his beloved wife of more than 56 years, Lupe Treviño; his sons, Benedict Treviño, Balde Treviño Jr. and wife Rachel, and Edward Treviño and wife Barbara; and his daughter, Belinda Guzman and husband Rick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin and wife Melanie, Vincent, Eric, Lauren, Sarah, Erika, Mark, Ricky, and Carolina; his great-grandchildren, Victoria and Mariah; his sisters, Dora Garza and husband Rudy, and Madge Lopez; sisters-in-law Lilly Treviño, Hilda Treviño, Adelina Treviño, and Pauline Treviño; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Balde’s grandsons, Kevin, Vincent, Eric, Mark, and Ricky.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart School, 1007 Trail St., Floresville, TX 78114.
