"Lady Liberty" is a remarkable and inspiring example of collective, creative response to 9/11. Shortly after September 11, 2011, a fiberglass replica of the Statue of Liberty was placed outside of a New York City firehouse that lost 15 men at the World Trade Center. Quickly and spontaneously, the statue became adorned with tribute items - mass cards, condolence notes, badges, handmade tribute art, and many other items. Covered head to toe, the statue exemplifies a form of artistic response to tragedy that contributes to healing while building a sense of community.
