Town East 66

C.C. Annapolis Christian 19

CORPUS CHRISTI -- The Town East Christian School six-man football team traveled to Corpus Christi last Saturday to take on Annapolis Christian Academy, and to avenge last year’s 58-14 loss to the Warriors. The Eagles took care of business in a big way, making it a short game, and winning by way of the mercy rule, at 66-19.

For Town East, this was the second mercy-rule victory of the year, and the Eagles improved their record to 2-1 on the season.

Dante Johnson led Town East’s running game for the third straight game, as he had six carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. John LaMoy was equally as impressive on the ground, as he added seven carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

In the air, Ben Guerra threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns, with his favorite target being Drevion Williams, who caught six passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Joshua Rios caught the Eagles’ other touchdown on a 45-yard catch and run. The final touchdown of the game came on a 25-yard interception return by Tyler Smith.

On the defensive side, LaMoy led the Eagles with 10 tackles, followed by Marcos Melchor, Johnson, Smith, Guerra, and Williams with three tackles each.

Town East’s next game is Saturday, Sept. 17, and the Eagles will face the unbeaten team from Castle Hills. It will be the first district game for both teams, and it will take place on the campus of River City Academy. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
