Beatrice “Bea” Smithey, 96, of Stockdale, Texas, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011. She was born on Feb. 23, 1915.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smithey, and a son, Billy Ray Smithey.

She is survived by her son, John Raymond Smithey and wife Ann; her daughters, Doris Rennspies and husband Arno and Elizabeth Kahlden and husband Harvey; her grandchildren, Rhonda Smithey Hastings and husband Terry, Karen Ann Smithey, Darryl Ray Smithey and wife Stacey, Tammi Rennspies Wilhelm and husband Steve, Matthew Scott Smithey and wife Edie, and Traci Rennspies Marcrum and husband John; and seven great-grandchildren. Bea is also survived by her brothers, Willard Martin and Estel Martin; and her sisters, Francis “Fannie Mae” Rethaber and Lena Mae Quinney.

Visitation took place Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale, with the family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Gary Irwin officiating.

Interment followed in the Stockdale City Cemetery in Stockdale.

Serving as pallbearers were Matt Smithey, Darryl Smithey, Curtis Laskowski, James Buesing, Steve Wilhelm, and John Marcrum. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Corey Hastings, Cameron Hastings, and Tyler Smithey.
