Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. August William “Sonny” Weiss, 75, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011. He was born April 12, 1936, in Killeen to John Henry and Lillie (Vahrenkamp) Weiss.

Sonny was a dedicated employee of H.B. Zachry for 42 years. He was a devoted husband, father, loving grandfather, and true friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Karen (Tredway) Weiss; his sons, Gilbert Cason and wife Robin of Boerne, Mitchell Morrall and wife Judy of Tulsa, Okla., and Don Morrall of Tulsa, Okla.; his grandchildren, Shaun Cason, Jordan Cason, Evan Cason, Audrey Bordwine, Daniel Morrall, Darcy Shephard, Amy Morrall, Jody Morrall, Alex Morrall, and Krystal; numerous great-grandchildren; his sister, Ethel Mae Hall of Chandler, Ariz.; and five nieces and nephews.

Visitation took place Thursday, Sept. 8, from 6-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother David Gale and Brother Tom Sommers officiating.

Interment followed in the Concrete Cemetery, near La Vernia in Guadalupe County.

Memorial donations may be made to Cal Farley’s Boy’s Ranch, 600 W. 11th St., Amarillo, TX 79101-3228 or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 279, La Vernia, TX 78121.
