1950-2011

Barbara Ann Conn Mills, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at 7:39 p.m. in her residence in Floresville, at the age of 61 years, 1 month, and 2 days. Barbara was born Aug. 4, 1950, in Floresville, the daughter of Hampton Theodore and Kathryne Marie Hartzman Conn.

After graduation from Floresville High School, class of 1968, Barbara married Clarence Dale Mills on April 19, 1969, in the Floresville United Methodist Church. Barbara worked in the customer service industry for more than 40 years with time at SWBT, the local cable company, several oil and gas companies, and with the past 10 years being a dedicated employee of Golden West Oil Co. in San Antonio.

Additionally, Barbara served as secretary of the Marcelina Cemetery Association, an organization she was devoted to for more than 30 years, partly due to her family history with the Marcelina community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hampton and Kay Conn.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Clarence Dale Mills of Floresville; her son, Garrett Dale Mills and wife Leslie of Rio Medina; her daughter, Joley Ann Mills and husband Dennis Vasconcelos of Shrewsbury, Mass.; her grandchildren, Garrett Ross Mills of Houston and Emma Jordan Mills and Ethan Brandon Mills of Rio Medina; and her sister and brothers, Kitty Bartlett and husband Donald of Weatherford, William “Bill” Conn and wife Dawn of Floresville, Gene Conn and wife Jan of McCoy, David Conn and wife Anne of Poth, and John Conn of Stockdale. Many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews loved their Aunt Barbara, as well as a host of longtime friends and co-workers, who were her extended family.

Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 8, from 6-8 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

Barbara’s life was remembered in a beautiful service held Friday in the funeral home chapel in Floresville at 10 a.m. with words by the Rev. Michael Mumme of the Floresville United Methodist Church, and favorite songs and hymns. Her dear niece, LouAnn Wagner, gave a humorous recount of Barbara’s life.

Interment followed in the Marcelina Cemetery in Wilson County, which included gospel songs played graveside by her great-nephew, Justin Wagner.

Serving as pallbearers were her brothers, Bill, Gene, David, and John Conn, her brother-in-law, Don Bartlett, dear friend Squeaky Hartmann, and nephew-in-law Ford Wagner.

Memorial donations may be made to the Marcelina Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 152, Floresville, TX 78114; or to the Marcelina Baptist Church, P.O. Box 237, Floresville, TX 78114.
