Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Jovita Garza Ramos Peña, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at 7:25 a.m. in her residence in Floresville, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 1 day. Jovita was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Floresville, the daughter of Domingo Valdez and Teresa Villarrel Garza Ramos.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Guadalupanas, and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. Jovita married Esteban Garcia Peña on June 11, 1944, in the Sacred Heart Church. Esteban, Jovita’s beloved husband of more than 36 years, preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Esteban Peña; her brothers, Moses Ramos and Nickolas Ramos; her half-brothers, Pablo Ramos and Juan Mata Ramos; and her son-in-law, Felix Valdez Sr.

Jovita is survived by her 12 children, Gloria Valdez, Olga Castro and husband Rick, Diana Lucio and husband Joe, and Adela Castro and husband Ross, all of Floresville; Steve Peña and wife Shirley of San Antonio; Luis Peña and wife Laura of Red Oak; and Dolores Lopez and husband Miguel, Erminia Treviño and husband Eligio, Domingo Peña and wife Mary, Christoval Peña Sr. and wife Manuella, Anita Salgado and husband Joe, and Robert Peña and wife Pricella, all of Midland. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, nine step-great- grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Alicia Ramos.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 6 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in the church, with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Eric Peña, Edgar Peña, Christoval Peña Jr., Joe Raymond Treviño, Felix Valdez Jr., Melissa Cordova, Charles Brown, Homer Lopez, Eric Castro, Gregory Peña, and Theresa Peña.
