Join new wildlife group Oct. 1
FLORESVILLE -- The newly formed Wilson County Wildlife Management Association will host a kickoff event and mixer Saturday, Oct. 1, from 2-4 p.m. at Jack’s Café in Floresville.
The Wilson County Wildlife Management Association is a local, nonprofit organization with the goal of improving wildlife habitat and wildlife populations in Wilson County for the benefit of current and future generations. Membership is open to anyone, and property ownership is not a requirement. Hunters and nonhunters are all welcome to join.
As a member of the association, area residents will be able to meet and interact with others who share their interests in wildlife; work with neighbors to manage wildlife across fence lines; access educational opportunities, including presentations, workshops, and field days; assist with wildlife surveys in Wilson County; have the opportunity to obtain doe permits; reduce hunting lease license costs; attend clinics that will show how to qualify for a wildlife tax exemption; and more.
During the kickoff event, attendees will have the opportunity to listen to knowledgeable speakers, including local biologists and conservationists.
Association president Bob Thomae will speak first, providing an introduction, and discussing the goals of the association. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologist Ryan Darr will then speak about topics of interest to the association, as well as specific benefits of the association. Darr will also talk about deer permits, and how wildlife can help for those in need of a tax break.
Jason Katcsmorak of the Natural Resource Conservation Service will discuss farm bill programs available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the conservation service, and Peggy Darr, former Nature Tour program coordinator for the King Ranch, will speak about the many birding opportunities in South Texas.
For more information, or if you would like to join but are unable to attend this event, call 830-393-2162 or e-mail WCWMA.Info@gmail.com.
