The Wilson County Teen Girl Reading Club visited the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home on Sept. 10, to share their love of reading and give back to the community.

Members read poetry from Waltzing Across the Sky, authored by club member Rachel Raabe. Her first book has been published and is available at www.rachelraabewordpress.com.

The girls also read from The Summons by John Grisham, played the piano, and socialized with the residents.

One resident, Roy Rogers, returned the favor by entertaining the girls with stories of how he was named for the more famous Roy Rogers, along with other stories.

Corrina Ramirez, activities director at the veterans home, organized the event with the reading club’s co-leader, Sarah Keith, in the hope of filling a need with an enjoyable pastime. All involved are encouraged by the success of this first venture and intend to continue.

Club members attending included Brittany Herrera, Laura Balboa, Dominique Scott, Saelym Travieso Nieto, Breighanna Urdahl, and Raabe.
