Loren ‘Allen’ Wilson
Loren “Allen” Wilson, a resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at 1:41 a.m. in the Floresville Nursing Center at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 15 days. Allen was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Midland, the son of Howard Taft Wilson and Helen Elois Daniel Wilson.
Allen served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1965, and he married Dorothy Noland on June 21, 1965, in Midland. Allen worked as a newspaper pressman, spending 25 years at the Midland Reporter Telegram, and later at the San Antonio Light and Express-News for two years. Allen was also the proud caretaker of the Mission Valley Missions Camp in Wilson County for many years. Allen was of the Baptist faith.
Our daddy was a man among men. He was dependable, solid, loyal, and honest; a man of quiet integrity, with a sense of humor and a ready smile for all, his family said. He was the best husband, daddy, and friend anyone could ever hope to know. He was a blessing to all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tina Louise Dudley; his son, Leroy Allen Taft Wilson; and his brother, Orville Wilson.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of more than 46 years, Dorothy F. Wilson of Floresville; his daughters, Bonnie Cardenas of El Paso and Lorie McCulloch of La Vernia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, Steven Manning of La Vernia; his sisters, Loretta Caswell of Midland and Lou Thomas of Fort Stockton; nine nieces; four nephews; and a multitude of brothers and sisters in Christ.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 7-9 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roddy Rodgers of Landmark Baptist Church officiating.
Interment followed at 2 p.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Serving as pallbearers were Danny Northcutt, Gregg Laughlin, David Fenoglio, and Steve Manning.
