Darnell Leonard Rodriguez, a resident of Falls City, Texas, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at 2:32 p.m. in the Kindred Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 66 years, 6 months, and 16 days. Darnell was born March 1, 1945, in Floresville, the daughter of Ruby Grier and Leander “L.J.” Leonard Sr.

She graduated from Falls City High School and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. Darnell married Robert Rodriguez Sr. on June 30, 1962, in Nahunta, Ga., and was a homemaker who lived in Germany, Corpus Christi, California, and Poth.

Darnell was preceded in death by her father, Leander “L.J.” Leonard Sr.; and her brother, Leander Leonard.

She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 49 years, Robert Rodriguez Sr. of Poth; her son, Robert Rodriguez Jr. and wife Pam of Lanexa, Va.; her daughters, Cindy Rodriguez of San Antonio and Robin Alfaro and husband Martin of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Roman, Bobby, Tyler, and Zachery Rodriguez; her mother, Ruby Pawelek; and stepfather Jim Pawelek. Darnell is also survived by her sisters, Charlotte Noble and husband Earl of New Braunfels, Vickie Zidek and husband Alan of Falls City, Gwen Moczygemba and husband Roy of Falls City, and Nell Steffek and husband Leonard of Kingfisher, Okla.; her half-sister, Trudy Jones and husband Charles of Poth; her sister-in-law, Sherry Leonard of Falls City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth with Father Grzegorz Szewczyk officiating.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Darnell’s husband, Robert Rodriguez Sr.; her son, Robert Rodriguez Jr.; her grandsons, Zach Rodriguez, Bobby Rodriguez, Roman Rodriguez, and Tyler Rodriguez; her son-in-law, Martin Alfaro; and Larry Rodriguez Jr.
