Dear Friends and Neighbors in the 28th District,

Last week, I sent you a short survey that asked your opinions on how to create jobs in America, which focused primarily on small businesses. I would like to thank you for your participation in the survey. I reviewed your answers and I appreciate your suggestions as to how Congress can do more to aid small businesses and create jobs. I will work to implement legislation that reflects your ideas to jump start the nation’s economy and recover from this recession.

A total of 1,240 responded to my job creation survey. According to the survey results, there was overwhelming support for reducing taxes for employers who hire new workers who are veterans or currently unemployed -- 80 percent support this effort. This tax cut is included in the American Jobs Act that was proposed to Congress earlier this month. As an advocate for tax cuts, I agree that taxes should be reduced for small businesses and incentives should be extended to those that put the unemployed back to work and hire members of our military.

Additionally, 914 of constituents agree with extending a Small Business Administration program that allows small businesses low-interest refinancing without the requirement of an expansion.

And 848 surveyed believe that small business procurement goals should be increased, enabling all small businesses -- from women-owned to disabled veteran owned the maximum opportunity to participate in the services that the government offers. Thanks to your support in these efforts, I will cosponsor legislation that addresses these two issues to foster a pro-growth environment that allows small businesses to survive.

These are just a few examples how your voice contributes to representing you in Congress to my best ability. My work for job creation and promotion of America’s small businesses continues. Earlier this week, I met with 25 small businesses -- ranging from restaurants owners to local dry cleaners -- to hold a roundtable discussion on ideas to create more jobs. We all agree that America needs jobs now, but how to decrease the unemployment rate is key to economic growth. Attendees in the meeting acknowledged the need for small businesses’ access to increased capital and expressed the need for economic certainty so they can hire people. As a former small business owner, I will continue my efforts aimed at providing small businesses the resources they need to grow their businesses and hire new workers.

Jobs and economic growth continue to be my priority. If you would like to send me your ideas on how to create jobs, please e-mail me: jobs.creation.cuellar@mail.house.gov.

As always, it is my honor to represent you in Congress. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact my offices throughout the 28th District of Texas or in Washington, D.C.

(Signed) Congressman Henry Cuellar
