Maria “Mary” Magdalena Gomez DeLeon, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 3 days. Mary was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Floresville, the daughter of Margarito and Dolores Vera Gomez.

She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Antonio Gomez; and her sister, Tomasa Aranda.

She is survived her by her children, Irma DeLeon, Valentin DeLeon Jr. and wife Mary, and Norma Vargas and husband Albert, all of San Antonio, and Terrie Olivo and husband Rey of Poth, Oscar DeLeon Sr. and wife Angie of Floresville, Nancy Sendejo and husband Ronnie of Poth, and Manuel DeLeon Sr. and wife Melinda of Dilley; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Trinidad Martinez, Fidel Gomez, Irene Jaramillo, Margarita Jimenez, Jesus Gomez, Gregorio Gomez, Felix Gomez, Juan Gomez, Adela Gomez, Guadalupe Gomez, Raymond Gomez, Tina Almanza, and Minnie Almanza.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Marcos DeLeon, Manuel DeLeon Jr., Dominic Sendejo, Keith Vargas, John Michael DeLeon, Oscar DeLeon Jr., and Derek Olivo.
