1929-2011

Charles Lafayette Brown, 82, of Floresville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011. He was born May 23, 1929, the youngest of the five Brown brothers who all served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Upon his honorable discharge, he received the World War II Victory Medal. Charlie was a wonderful cook. In the early ’50s, he played music for the KBOP radio station along with his band, “Charlie Brown and the Texas Playboys,” where he was lead singer and guitarist. He wrote and published several songs and continued to enjoy music and song throughout his life.

Charlie was serving as president of the Residence Council in the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home for these last 3-1/2 years. He was always concerned for the welfare of others and his phone calls to all his family members are something everyone will greatly miss. He was well-known at the veterans home for his generosity and helpfulness, his outspoken way, and his friendly personality.

Charlie was preceded in death by his former wife, Ima Jean Crow Brown, and great-grandson Andrew Nathaniel Arguello.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Wood, Glen Wood, and David Charles Brown and wife Nema, all of San Antonio, John Martin Marsh of Plano, and Duane Asa Brown and wife Mary Ann of Lompoc, Calif.; his daughters, Sharon Lee Marsh Ouimette and husband Frank Ouimette Sr. of West Jordan, Utah, and Jean Denise Montieth and Donna Rae Marquis and husband Ronald, all of San Antonio; as well as 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Pleasanton First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pleasanton, with Bishop James Duke officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
