1915-2011

Myrtie M. McKinney, formerly of Nixon, Texas, left this world to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011. She was born June 27, 1915, in Wilson County to Jim and Ella Irene (Croft) McKinney.

Myrtie was a lifetime member of the Nixon Assembly of God Church. During her lifetime, she worked at numerous jobs, Hewell’s Drug Store, Billings’ Dry Goods, Smith Propane, the Nixon Library, and as a teacher’s aide for 13 years. If you were to ask which job she enjoyed the most, she would always say “working with kids.” Myrtie had been in Nesbit Nursing Home in Seguin for the past few years after having a stroke. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Myrtie never met a stranger and was always there to give a helping hand when it was needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Warren, Frank, Tip, Cloman, Green, Lee, and Braxton McKinney; and two sisters, Jessie Quinney and Francis “Fannie” Woodall.

Myrtie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 30, from 6-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Irwin officiating.

Interment followed in the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
