Town East falls to Boerne Geneva
Boerne Geneva 78
Town East 50
LA VERNIA -- After avenging a big loss from 2010 two weeks ago, the Town East Eagle football team was hoping to do the same this past Friday. Town East hosted Boerne Geneva at Wiseman Field, but was a bit too hospitable with the ball. The Eagles were plagued by a slew of turnovers, and Coach Robert Davis believes that was the difference in the game. As Town East quickly learned, you can’t turn the ball over to the state’s No. 3-ranked team seven times and still come out on top. Boerne Geneva made the most of their gifts, and left town with a 78-50 win.
The first quarter was packed with great six-man football action, but the scoreboard didn’t light up as quickly as most had expected from these two power-packed offenses. The visiting team held a slight advantage over the Eagles during the first quarter of play, and moved into the second with a 14-8 advantage.
The scoring that had been lacking in the first quarter was present in a big way during the second. In total, seven touchdowns were scored, though it was once again Boerne Geneva with the advantage. Town East scored three times for 24 points, but the visiting Eagles put up another 30 for a 44-32 lead.
Things slowed back down in the second half, but Town East could not gain any ground against the efforts of Boerne Geneva. Town East scored once in the third, while the visiting team scored twice.
With a 56-38 lead, Boerne Geneva continued to apply pressure. The visiting team scored 22 points in the final quarter of play, while the home team was held to 12. As the game clock expired, it was Boerne Geneva celebrating the 78-50 win.
The loss drops the Town East Eagles to 4-2 on the year, and 2-1 in district play. The team will be back on the road this week, as it travels to San Antonio New Life Friday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
