Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Team roping, ranch rodeo set for Floresville

Team ropers, mutton busters, and ranch rodeo enthusiasts will have an opportunity to enjoy their sport during the Floresville Peanut Festival. These events will be held at the Floresville River Park Roping Arena located off S.H. 97 west of Floresville, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8-9.

Team ropers will compete Saturday at 1 p.m. Books open at noon for the No. 8 roping. Crossroads belt buckles will be awarded to average winners of the No. 8. Crossroads spurs will be awarded to second-place winners in the average.

Books open at 1 p.m., with roping set for 2 p.m. for the No. 10 and No. 12 roping. The top ten teams of both ropings will advance to the finals to be held Sunday, Oct. 9, during the Ranch Rodeo.

Crossroads belt buckles will be awarded to the average winners of the No. 10 and No. 12 roping events.

A Double J saddle will be awarded to the high-point roper of the day.

Ropers may enter one, draw three or enter open draw four for $100 per roper in any of the roping events.

Negative Coggins is required.

For the young cowboys and cowgirls, mutton bustin’ will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. Sign-up is set for noon for $20 per rider. The contest is limited to 20 riders.

A Crossroads belt buckle will be awarded to the Top Hand Rider, and all riders will be awarded a trophy.

Ranch rodeo

The first-ever Peanut Festival Ranch Rodeo finals event is set for Sunday at noon. Sign-up is at 11 a.m. Four-member teams will compete in four events for $400 per team.

Crossroads belt buckles will be awarded to the average winners. Buckles are donated and 100 percent payback.

Negative Coggins is required.

According to the Floresville Peanut Festival website, “The ranch rodeo is an event that serves as a living tribute to our Texas heritage. The ranch rodeo promotes our unique history and the western lifestyle by featuring competition between real cowboys from real working Texas ranches.

“The cowboys and their ranch horses compete in events that showcase the necessary skills and know-how ranch hands practice daily on today’s Texas ranches. The ranch rodeo’s events require the same teamwork ranch hands use in everyday lives.”

Admission is $10 presale and $15 at the gate.
