Help Wanted

Very part-time help needed to feed cats, chickens, and horses, Monday-Friday, 2 times per day, morning after dawn but before 9 a.m. for approx. 30-45 minutes and p.m. before dark (summer about 6-8 p.m., winter 4-5 p.m.) for approx. 60-90 minutes. Suitable for someone who lives near location, which is exactly halfway between New Berlin and La Vernia. No smoking and requires working in all weather conditions. Leah Spickschen, the 16-year-old daughter of Dr. Caroline Spickschen and Dr. Georg Heiber of Abbensen, Germany, will represent the Intercultural Exchange Program at Floresville High School in the Peanut Festival. She will be a member of the community until next June. Her host family is Chuck and Cindy Sawers, and Hannah Sawers. Hannah is the first runner-up princess-elect for this year’s court.

Leah, a junior at Floresville High School, is a member of the percussion section of the Mighty Tiger Band. She enjoys playing in the band and traveling with her fellow Tiger Band members to football games and contests. Leah is also an accomplished pianist and enjoys playing for her family in Germany and her Floresville family, too.

When not at school, Leah enjoys riding horses. She has grown up riding English, and has taken to the Western style since moving to Texas and looks forward to participating in a trail ride with her Texas sister, Hannah.

Leah would like to thank Malte Schlossmacher, who is also a foreign exchange student, for being her escort for the coronation and the parade. Malte is staying in the home of host mother Nancy Koch. Malte is from Tonisvorst, Germany. He is the son of Babette and Bernd Schlossmacher. In Germany, Malte plays guitar in a small band and plays outfielder on a baseball team. In Floresville, Malte plays guitar in the percussion section of the Mighty Tiger Band. He is also part of the baseball team. Malte enjoys attending Floresville High School.
