The second annual Goober Kids Fun Run and 5K Run is set for Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8 a.m. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. at The Beer Warehouse located at 1302 Second St. in Floresville. Participants are asked to arrive early if they have not registered.

The proceeds of the event will be used for a scholarship in memory of Beverli Helmke, the beloved Floresville Independent School District third-grade teacher.

Floresville’s Hike and Bike Trail will be the course of the fun runs; the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. For those not familiar with the trail, it is a runner-friendly, flat, out-and-back course in the middle of town.

At approximately 9 a.m., the Kids Run will start. The younger kids will run a shorter distance of about a half-mile, while the older kids will run closer to 1 mile. For the kids, awards will be given to the top five in the three age groups: 5 and under, ages 6-8 years, and 9-11 years. The top three runners in each 5K age group will receive awards.

Upon completion of the races, the awards and door prizes will be handed out with time enough for families to attend the Peanut Festival Parade at 10 a.m. and enjoy the festivities the rest of the day.

If you have any questions or need a flyer, contact Karen Campbell at 210-413-7665.
