GOOBER GAZETTE: WSO is Honorary Grand Marshal

The Women’s Service Organization will serve as Honorary Grand Marshal for the Peanut Festival. WSO was originally formed as a Beta Club. At this time, members pledged themselves to beauty. They meet monthly at someone’s home and with other Beta Clubs each year on Founder’s Day. After a while, they decided that sending dues to a national sorority was not the direction they wished to go and made the decision to go independent. Members made the decision to change the direction of the club and focus on community service; hence the name, Women’s Service Organization. Since forming, WSO has started its own scholarship award for graduating high school seniors in Wilson County based on community service rather than concentrating on grades. WSO also sponsors Power of Pink walk/run the first weekend in March each year in order to raise money for the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation. Another major event sponsored by WSO is the annual Kiddie Parade held on Peanut Festival Friday each year. The WSO would like to thank President Audrey Clements for recognizing our community involvement.
