A lot of people from all sides wish that Sarah Palin would have run in the 2012 presidential race.

I, for one, am glad that she is not running.

In the first place, it would have been impossible for her to conduct a serious campaign; her family would have been hammered mercilessly; and the focus on the campaign would have been on the peripheral issues instead of on policy.

Secondly, as a member of the public, she now will be free to speak more candidly than she would if she were a candidate. This is her intention and, frankly, I think it is a good plan.

Her announcement yesterday was almost anti-climactic. Sarah Palin finally made her announcement, citing family considerations and a lot prayers in helping her make that decision.

For months, she has enjoyed speaking out and even teasing the “drive-by” media by not handing them her agenda. But then again, why should she have given them her agenda? She was not a candidate for anything. Still, the press would not leave her and her family alone.

A newspaper headline today reads: Former Alaska governor’s decision ends months of speculation by her fans. I would contend that the speculation was by the mainstream media as much as it was by her fans.

She was dogged by the press wherever she went, and members of the media were frustrated because they just couldn’t quite figure her out. Was she going to run -- or was she not? America wants to know, they said. A part of me thinks there actually is a lot of disappointment among the big media types because she won’t be on the ticket. Look at all the interesting headlines they could write if she were in the mix. They’ve been trying to dig up dirt from her family, friends, and neighbors for months, and now they must look elsewhere for salacious fodder.

They won’t even have her to beat up as a third-party candidate, something about which there has been much speculation. Thankfully, her ego did not go so far as to propel her into running on a third-party ticket. To her credit, Palin realized that such a run would hand the victory to President Obama, and the whole reason for Palin running or not running is to make sure that Obama does not get another term. Yes, I am glad that Gov. Palin decided not to run for president in 2012.

I agree. But it makes me want to puke when I see the lengths the main stream (left) media goes to dig up and even manufacture dirt on conservative candidates. Even worse are the stupid people who still belive this garbage. And ... More ›
