An attempt to save the Stockdale Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from closure has failed.

Wilson County Pct. 4 Commissioner Larry Wiley told fellow commissioners Ricky Morales, Paul Pfeil, and Albert Gamez Jr., and County Judge Marvin Quinney that $50,000 to $60,000 is needed for the EMS to continue covering more than a third of the county’s land area. Without that money, Wilson County Health & Public Safety Coordinator Edwin Baker said service will end as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The service area, which includes the communities of Kosciusko, Stockdale, Sutherland Springs, and Pandora, will likely be covered by EMS squads from La Vernia, Floresville, and Nixon. The commissioners will take action to redraw service boundaries at a future meeting.

For more, read the Oct. 19 print edition of the Wilson County News.
