Alfred Victor Treybig
Alfred Victor Treybig, a long-time resident of Gillett, Texas, passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2011, at 5:47 a.m. in the Warm Springs Specialty Hospital of Victoria at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 9 days. Alfred was born June 27, 1923, in Gillett, the son of Albert and Meta Leubert Treybig.
Alfred served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. His most notable memory of his military service was being aboard the USS Missouri for the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Japan.
He married Rhodie Zoller on Jan. 2, 1945, in Cuero. Alfred’s beloved wife, Rhodie, preceded him in death one day short of 50 years of marriage, on Jan. 1, 1996.
Alfred was a cattle rancher and farmer. He was a contract turkey rancher for Con-Ag during the 1970s. Alfred recently became a member of Lindenau’s St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Alfred is survived by his sisters, Doris Wehmeyer of Stockdale and Geneva Smedley of Kenedy; his granddaughter, Nancy Korzekwa and husband J.B. of Yorktown; great-grandchildren Cindy, J.J., and Gus Korzekwa of Yorktown; cousins Helen Huff of Schroeder, Alva Arndt of Westhoff, Olga Holten of Houston, and Betty Warren of Westhoff; nephews Jim, David, and John Wehmeyer, and David, Allen, Richard, Robert, and Michael Zoller; nieces Frances Morris, Margaret Dworaczyk, Rochelle Bridges, and Margaret Merritt; and a host of friends during his lifetime.
Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 7, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.
A funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William G. Hill of the Westhoff/Lindenau St. John’s Lutheran Churches officiating.
Interment followed in the Miller League Treybig Cemetery in Gillett.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Wehmeyer, David Wehmeyer, John Wehmeyer, Robert Muschalek, Charles Riedel, and Larry Mueller.
