The Floresville High School freshman football team opened district play last Thursday with a thrilling victory over Gregory-Portland by the score of 36-22. The freshmen remain undefeated with a record of 6-0.

Once again, the offense was led by the scoring of Austin Aikens, who had five touchdowns on runs of 52, 56, 50, 62, and 55 yards. Aikens also recorded two conversion runs, while Josh Jeffreys connected on a pass to Dadrian Contreras for another conversion. The offensive line did a great job creating running lanes all night. The line includes Corey Opiela, Jody Trevino, Diego Perez, Joshia Ramirez, Jacob Sendejo, Manuel Macias, and Tyler Masur.

The defense turned in another outstanding performance, finally shutting down the Wildcats in the fourth quarter. Defensive standouts included Lorenzo Neaves, Aikens, and Jeffreys. Other standouts with pass breakups include Luke Smith (4), Matthew Pollok (1), C.J. Felux (1), Trevino (1), and Jesus Carrizales (1). Joe Griffith had two interceptions and Contreras had one.

The freshman Tigers will travel to Victoria West next Thursday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
