Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Melinda Jayne Villegas, 23, departed suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011. She was born on Aug. 21, 1988, to Roberto M. and Debra Linares Villegas.

Melinda was the light of her parents’ eyes, always making them proud. Melinda was an awesome personality with a sweet disposition and deep sense of responsibility. She always kept a watchful eye for her brother, Robert Michael, and sister, Julie Villegas.

Melinda made her life count with many accomplishments in her short life. Melinda was a member of the band at Jack C. Jordan Middle School and the marching band at Earl Warren High School. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated in the top 10 percent from Earl Warren High School in 2006. She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and taught mathematics at John Jay High School in 2010-11. She had just begun the school year at East Central High School.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Estanislado Linares.

She will never be forgotten and will be forever missed by her family; Derrick Lopez, her soon-to-be fiancé; her grandparents, Dolores S. Linares and Rafael and Lucy C. Villegas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from Miner Fleet Management, Northside Independent School District (ISD), GEEMS, and East Central ISD.

A rosary was recited Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday in the St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in San Antonio.

The Melinda Villegas Endowment Fund at the University of Texas at San Antonio has been established in her memory. Checks can be made to UTSA, Memo: Melinda Villegas Scholarship, and sent to UTSA College of Sciences, Office of the Dean, One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249.
