I knew it was real, but until Alan Korwin (www.gunlaws.com and Bloomfield press) pointed it out, I hadn’t paid a lot of attention.

As a newspaper, we capitalize “Tea Party” in our print references. Major news sources, however, choose not to capitalize tea party, which is OK. The Tea Party is not a party at all. “Tea Party” is the moniker given to the conservative movement that led to Republican gains in last November’s elections.

In view of the fact, however, that major news sources are capitalizing the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, it is not OK.

As Korwin wrote: Does this mean the “occupy” people are real and the “tea party” people are just a temporary distraction?

This may be a small thing, but there is a real distinction to be made.

To “join” the Tea Party, there is no form to sign; there are no dues to pay. There also is no one like Michael Moore funding the Tea Party events. They are just groups and gatherings of people -- lots of people -- with a mutual interest in strict adherence to the Constitution. While some have actually attended organized Tea Party events; others merely vote for candidates who support the Constitution and are thus considered to be Tea Partiers.

Tea Partiers are not angry. They have not been known to be rude to candidates and officials by shouting them down or using vulgarities. When the Tea Party did hold rallies, they met, they said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the Stars Spangled Banner. They listened to speakers, attended to their children, and then picked up their blankets, making sure that no trash was left behind, and went home.

They went back to their daily routines and their jobs so they could pay their taxes and provide for their families.

This is unlike the current “occupiers” who are an angry bunch, apparently don’t work because they are camping out for extended periods, blocking those who are trying to get to work, and leaving mounds of trash everywhere.

They leave the mess to those of us who continue to work so that we can pay the taxes that are used to pay for the cleanup, the crowd control, and the welfare programs that enable the occupiers.

We are the Tea Partiers --- or the tea partiers. Either way, we are the ones paying, and paying, and paying. We are going to vote in November 2012.
