1932-2011

Fernando R. Quintanilla Jr., 78, of San Antonio, Texas, died in his home in San Antonio on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011. Fernando was born in Stockdale on Dec. 7, 1932, to Fernando V. and Inez Rivas Quintanilla.

He was a construction contractor and a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

Fernando was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Yolanda Sandoval; his great-granddaughter, Chloe Gemma; and three brothers, Florentino, Daniel, and Rene Quintanilla.

Survivors include his daughters, Rita Zavala, Sylvia Munn, Cynthia Salazar, Belinda Segovia, Yvonne Arredondo, and Maria Flores, all of San Antonio; his sons, John Quintanilla, Ernest Quintanilla, Armando Quintanilla, David Quintanilla, and Patrick Quintanilla, all of San Antonio; 34 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers, Sam Quintanilla, Lorenzo Quintanilla, Frank Quintanilla, and Rudy Quintanilla; his sisters, Ella Trevino, Frances Guerra, Clara Rangel, Lucy Lerma, Mary Ann Trevino, Sylvia Quintanilla, and Janie Villarreal; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 21, from 3-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale with Father Dennis Jarzombek officiating.

Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Parish Cemetery in Stockdale.

Memorial donations may be made to the Guadalupe Valley Hospice, 1215 E. Court St., Seguin, TX 78155, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
