The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office held its 17th annual Sheriff Santa Shootout Oct. 15 in an effort to raise money for the Sheriff Santa program. Each year, the program helps area families in need by providing holiday meals and toys.

After a morning of competition that involved sending approximately 5,000 rounds down range, the scores were totaled and the trophies were handed out.

In the semi-auto competition, Jim Davis proved that he was once again the top gun. Davis shot a 498 out of a possible score of 500, including 38 X-rings, and took home first-place honors in the high-master category. Ed Becka finished second in high-master, and Larry Busby was third.

In the master division, Gary Laughlin finished first with a score of 490, including 29 hits in the X-ring. Judd Earley finished second, and Jesse Evins was third.

Paul Buford took home top honors in the expert class with his score of 479, Marshall Milikien was second, and Robert McDonald took home the third-place trophy.

Tony Arsuaga topped the sharp-shooter class with his score of 451, followed by Martin Garsee in second, and Kimberlee Bratcher in third place.

Clay Leiwalo took home top honors in the marksman class with his score of 427. Andrew Garner was 2 points behind in second place, and Steve Baker finished third.

There weren’t as many entries in the revolver competition, and it was once again Davis who took home top honors. Davis shot another 498, with a total of 34 X-ring hits to win the high-master class. Larry Sralla was the only other shooter to break into the high-master class, and he took home the second-place trophy with a score of 494.

Becka finished first in the master division with a score of 489, edging Laughlin, who also shot a 489. The tie was broken by way of X-ring hits, and the advantage was Becka’s with 30 to Laughlin’s 27. Earley finished third in the master class.

Arsuaga finished first in the expert class with a score of 463, and Raul Vasquez was close behind at 462 to capture second-place honors.

In the sharp-shooter class, Leroy Jordan took top honors with his score of 458, followed by Larry Keeble in second place, and Don Beck in third.
