JV Tigers’ game with Beeville ends in 14-14 tie
FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville High School junior varsity Tiger football team had a rough finish to a game they dominated throughout.
Beeville received the opening kickoff and got on the board first to go up 6-0. Then, the Tiger defense started playing to its high standard. Beeville threatened a couple of times, but the defense held strong and didn’t allow any more scores.
Defensively, the Tigers were led by Mark Livesay, Nick Gomez, Cruz Dehoyos, Vernon Marsh, Robert Hammon, Justin Ybarra, James Dreager, Alex Douglas, Josh Vasquez, Sam Handowski, and Anthony Gonzales. It was another dominating night defensively for the Tigers.
Offensively, the Tigers got some great blocking all night from Zach Frantz, Luke Clements, Vasquez, Larry Guerrero, Handowski, Blake Popham, and Coy Baker up front, and on the edges by Nick Trevino, Aaron Laskowski -- who also had a big catch and run late in the game, Lawrence Mosely, and Dehoyos. Travis Morales racked up 205 yards rushing on 32 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion run. Also scoring for the Tigers was Gilbert Perez on a 22-yard run up the middle.
The Tigers led 14-6 with time running down when Beeville caught a break and returned a fumble 70 yards for a score, and then tied the game at 14-all with the 2-point conversion run.
The Tigers battled right back and got down to the 10-yard line on pure effort and a will to win. Unfortunately, the time ran out on the Tigers and the game ended in a 14-14 tie.
The junior varsity Tigers’ record now stands at 5-2-1 on the season, and 2-0-1 in district.
