Poth hosts cross-country meet
The Poth Pirate and Pirette cross-country runners celebrate their strong showing in Poth Oct. 15. The teams will be competing in Dilley this week.
POTH -- Poth City Park was full of cross-country runners Oct. 15, as Poth High School hosted its annual cross-country meet. With more than 15 teams from Class 3A, 2A, and 1A schools participating, it was a great day of racing, with the Pirettes finishing second and the Pirates placing fourth.
Justine Quintanilla ran a season-best time of 12:20 to finish third overall, as the top runner for the Pirettes. Whitney Lynch finished sixth with a time of 12:59, and Kelli Kolodziej placed 13th with a time of 13:14. Freshman Claire Dallmeyer and sophomore Devon Dylla finished 20th and 22nd, respectively, with times of 13:35 and 13:40. Keeley McKinney was 38th with a time of 14:16.
The Pirate team was led by Dylan Sefcik, who finished seventh in a time of 17:36. Spencer Flieller and Marcos Guevara followed with their 13th- and 14th-place finishes with times of 18:25 and 18:26, respectively. Aaron Friesenhahn placed 22nd with a time of 19:11, followed by Jake Sekula in 38th with a time of 20:36.
The Poth cross-country teams continue racing stronger from week to week. Coach Joe McKinney and his teams are ready for the district competition scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Dilley.
