1930-2011

Henry Peter Pawelek, a resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at 2:20 p.m. in the Mission Trail Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 1 day. Henry was born April 21, 1930, in Cestohowa, the son of John A. and Veronica Jaskinia Pawelek.

He attended school in Cestohowa. A farmer and a rancher, Henry also worked for the San Antonio River Authority, was a bus driver with the San Antonio Transit system, and was engaged in a private business with his son.

Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW, Post 8555, and the American Legion, Post No. 539.

Henry married Anna Marie Kutac on Aug. 5, 1953, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Jerry Wayne Pawelek; his four brothers, Alex Pawelek, Joe Pawelek, Johnny Pawelek, and Henry Pawelek; and his sister, Julia Laskowski.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anna Marie Kutac Pawelek of Floresville; his children, Ronald Lee Pawelek and wife Theresa of San Antonio and Sharon Kay Walker and husband Richard of Austin; his sisters, Cecilia Pruski of Cestohowa and Florence Olenick and husband Aloise of Falls City; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the church, with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment, with military honors, followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Isidore Laskowski, Marvin Pawelek, Alex Pruski, Jerry Pruski, Michael Pruski, and Lambert Titzman.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Care Network of South Texas, 4411 Medical Drive, Suite No. 100, San Antonio, TX 78229.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Rao and his staff for their exceptional medical care during his illness.
