Kenneth Wayne “Smitty” Smith Sr., 64, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011. He was born Aug. 23, 1947, to Charles W. and Iva Erlyne (Norman) Smith.

Kenneth served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-72. He worked for City Public Service for 29 years and retired in 2007. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Kenneth often participated in fishing tournaments with his son, many friends, and co-workers over the years. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Patricia (Gerth) Smith; his son, Kenneth Wayne Smith Jr. and wife Kathleen; his brothers, Robert Edward Smith and wife Judy and Charles E. Smith; his sister, Charlyne Stoops and husband Ronnie; his grandchildren, Joshua West and Chelsie Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation took place Thursday, Oct. 20, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, with Father Bill Zadora officiating.

Interment followed in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Memorial donations may be made by way of Mass cards.
