The Floresville High School junior varsity Tiger football team improved its record to 6-2-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in district with another hard-fought, close game last week against Victoria East.

Tough defensive plays by Nick Gomez, Cruz Dehoyos, Dustin McDonald, Justin Ybarra, Anthony Gonzales, Alex Douglas, and James Dreager made it rough on the Victoria East offense all night. The Tigers took advantage of an early Titan turnover on a run from Travis Morales and point-after kick by Aaron Balles to go up 7-0. The score at half was 7-6.

The second half was another one led by good defense. The Tigers got on the board again after a blocked punt by Dreager set Floresville up in good field position. Gilbert Ortiz made a good run on a busted play to score from 19 yards out. After a roughing the kicker penalty, the Tigers went for 2 points, and Travis Morales put it in to go up 15-6.

The Titans came back and scored again to make the score 15-14, but that would prove to be the final score as the Tigers’ suffocating defense sealed the game at the end.

The junior varsity team looks to win the district with a victory next week over Port Lavaca.
