Last week, I received an invitation to take part in a telephone Town Hall with District 28 Congressional Representative Henry Cuellar. It was quite interesting and as usual, my question was not taken. This is no surprise as the Congressman knows that I do not support him in any way. When the redistricting takes effect he will have 700,000 Constituents.

Here is what I learned from the call, and it was an eye opener. He started off by continually telling us how many people were on the phone (about 4,000 to 5,000). Callers all wanted money; I could not believe that these people were telling him things such as, “We need someone to come and look at our town and fix the houses!” ... WHAT!!!???

There is a recent report out of Austin that has designated the Texas Border cities as War Zones. WOW, were they ever upset about that one. One caller stated that San Antonio, Dallas, an Houston had a higher crime rate than the border. In fact the caller stated that there had only been a few murders in his area.

Of course, Mr C agreed and is VERY upset that they would call his District a “war zone.” Excuse me Mr C, but there is a border war with the drug problem. It is not a safe area. In fact there are not too many places to be “safe” anymore. One reason that San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas have such crime rates is attributed to Katrina AND the fact that the drugs and illegal’s are moving away from the border and deeper into the inner cities.

Another caller did not understand COLA’s? What? Why wouldn’t a citizen understand a COLA? All they have to do is read! Oops, guess there is a problem in reading. Maybe that is why they want more money spent on education!

Then Mr C decided that he “needs” assistance in establishing his priorities! So he had 2 polls, and were they ever loaded questions designed to get the answers he wanted! He provided 4 choices on each one.

Poll #1. Mr C needed his Constituents to let him know what he needs to focus on this next year. Only 600 people of the total people listening voted:

Jobs 44%
Border Security 27%
Education 23%
New energy initiatives 6%

Now he has a direction! He would go in this direction anyway, because he follows his leader and the other Democrats. His leader wants his Jobs Bill passed (funny, but that one is 0-3 in Congress now). Remember “jobs” to Democrats means printing more money and giving out freebies to companies and schools to squander -- NOT letting the free market handle the economy.

Poll #2. Mr C kept telling everyone that the second poll was a “HARD” and much more “DIFFICULT” question.... What a joke. Talk about front end loading a question to get the answer one wants from a poll. He wanted to know in handling the deficit where should the cuts come from. This one is no surprise! Only 314 voted on this one.

Eliminate Social Security and Medicare 4%
Cut Education 19%
Cut Military 37%
Increase taxes 40%

Of course the majority of Constituents want to raise taxes - IT WON’T AFFECT THEM - THEY DON’T PAY ANY! Mr C sends them money all the time. Like paying for paving streets, providing water...... Please, can this man be replaced??????

And we all know that the Democrats are using SCARE TACTICS saying that Republicans want to eliminate SS and Medicare!

Bottom line - If you are a Conservative or Republican you DO NOT HAVE REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS from Mr C. This will NOT change unless a Conservative or Republican steps up to the plate next year and challenges Mr C we are in for another 2 years of no representation! The majority of his Constituents are receiving a lot of hand outs from the Federal Government so he has that vote locked in, but there are plenty of Conservatives in this area who do not want our great Military cut and Taxes raised as the Democrats want. Maybe someone will pick up the cause and defeat him in 2012. Otherwise it is “status quo.”
