Robert “Bob” Wayne Herzing, a resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at 3:30 a.m. in his residence in Floresville at the age of 71 years and 8 months.

Bob was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Del Rio, the son of George and Elizabeth Swope Herzing. After graduation from Uvalde High School, Bob received his bachelor’s degree in education and a Master of Education in Public School Administration from Sul Ross College in Alpine. Bob married Beverly Stewart on Aug. 28, 1971, in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition to having worked in education for 38 years, Bob served proudly in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, overseas in the United Services Organization, Peace Corps, and as a missionary in Mexico. He was a member of the Floresville Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Beverly Herzing of Floresville; his children, Clay Herzing of Floresville and Christopher Herzing and wife Valerie of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Colton Herzing, Courtney Herzing, and Heaven Leigh Herzing; his sister, Sara Porter and husband Patrick of Pipe Creek; his aunts, Mrs. Jack Owens of San Antonio and Barbara Trueweek of Horseshoe Bay; his niece; five cousins; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the Floresville Church of Christ in Floresville.

A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. in the church with Minister Gordon A. Lindley officiating.

Interment, with military honors, followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Serving as pallbearers were Bob’s sons, Clay Herzing and Christopher Herzing; and Bob Cotton, Jim Freasier, Sammy McKnight, and Shawn Leonard.
