Jessica Willey of La Vernia, a member of the Wilson County 4-H Club, exhibited the reserve champion American heifer Oct. 22, in the fourth annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Calf Scramble Progress Show in Humble.

More than 180 students exhibited in the show, including six dairy heifers, 122 beef heifers, and 54 market steers.

Texas 4-H and FFA members who won a calf scramble purchase certificate at the 2011 Houston Livestock Show participated in the event, exhibiting heifers in American, British, and European divisions, as well as steers in light-, medium-, and heavy-weight divisions. Champions and reserve champions were named in each division, and in showmanship.

Participants in the 2011 Calf Scramble Progress Show had either caught a calf in the 2011 calf scramble, which took place in Reliant Stadium each night of Rodeo Houston, or won a purchase certificate in the 2011 livestock or dairy judging contests.

This show also featured educational seminars on raising cattle and allowed exhibitors to gain show experience at no cost. These exhibitors will return to the 2012 Houston Livestock Show to exhibit their projects in special scramble show competitions.

The 2012 Show runs Feb. 28 through March 18 at Reliant Park. Visit for more information.
