The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency Administrator Bruce Nelson announced Nov. 7 that the 2011 FSA county committee elections have begun, with USDA mailing ballots to eligible voters. The deadline to return the ballots to the local Farm Service Agency offices is Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. Ballots returned by mail must also be postmarked no later than Dec. 5.

To be an eligible voter, farmers and ranchers must participate or cooperate in a Farm Service Agency program. A person who is not of legal voting age, but supervises and conducts the farming operations of an entire farm, may also be eligible to vote.

Eligible voters who do not receive ballots in the coming week can obtain ballots from their local USDA Service Center.

Newly elected committee members and their alternates will take office Jan. 1, 2012.

For more information, visit the local USDA Farm Service Agency located on U.S. 181 in Floresville or call 830-393-3411.
