Roger Olivarez, a longtime resident of Calaveras, Wilson County, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, in his residence in Floresville at the age of 50 years, 1 month, and 23 days. He was born Sept. 23, 1961, in San Antonio, the son of Gilbert and Evangelina Martinez Olivarez. After graduation from Southside High School in San Antonio, Roger was a lawn mower mechanic for many years. Roger married Alma Cantu on Dec. 31, 1986, in Calaveras.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudy Olivarez, and his father, Gilbert Olivarez.

Roger is survived by his wife of 24 years, Alma Cantu Olivarez; his daughter, Christina Olivarez of Floresville; his son, Roger Olivarez Jr. and wife Lorelei of Floresville; his mother, Evangelina Olivarez; his grandchildren, Christian Cain Olivarez, Alazae Lisette Olivarez, Roselyn Magdalena Olivarez, and Gaberielle Nicole Olivarez; and his sisters and brothers, Emilia and Carlos Vara, Eva and Raymond Flores, Irma and Gilbert Morales, Beatrice and Tony Ramos, Rebecca Olivarez, Gilbert and Lola Olivarez, Roy and Maria Olivarez, Ralph and Leonor Olivarez, and Liberty Castro. He is also survived by his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Ruby Olivarez, Linda Diaz and husband Frank, Margie Gonzales and husband David, and Nick Cantu and wife Cindy; and his father- and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Thomasa Cantu.

Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville. A prayer service was held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A funeral service was held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Saspamco.

Serving as pallbearers were Roger Olivarez Jr., Raymond Castro, Henry James Castro, Eric Ramas, Juan Ramas, and John Trinidad. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Beto Gamez and Willie Guajardo.
