1921-2011

Maria Trinidad Gomez Martinez, 89, of Leesville, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, in Seguin. She was born on Dec. 25, 1921, in Brownsville and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margarito and Dolores (Vera) Gomez; a daughter, Elisa Martinez; four sons, Luis Martinez, Severiano Martinez, Juan Martinez, and Ramon Martinez; her sisters, Tomosa Gomez Aranda and Maria Magdalena Gomez DeLeon; and a brother, Tony Gomez.

Maria is survived by her husband, Luis Martinez; three daughters, Mary Dominguez and husband Rick, Soila Heim and husband Tom, and Cathy Vasquez and husband Noe; and six sons, Manuel Martinez, Florentino Martinez and wife Carmen, Ernest Martinez and wife LaVonne, Daniel Martinez and wife Lucia, Steven Martinez and wife Elena, and Rolando Martinez. She is also survived by 12 siblings, Fidel Gomez, Irene Gomez Jaramillo, Adela Gomez, Gregorio Gomez, Minnie Gomez Almanza, Margarita Gomez Jiminez, Jesus Gomez, Felix Gomez, Juan Gomez, Ernestina Gomez Almanza, Guadalupe Gomez, and Ramon Gomez; 36 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; as well other family and many friends.

Visitation took place Friday, Nov. 18, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. Deacon John Moreno led the recitation of a rosary at 6:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon with Father Alfonso Gioppato officiating.

Interment followed in the Nixon Latin American Cemetery in Nixon.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
