1925-2011

Norman Howard “Buck” Jones, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 11:17 p.m. in the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 26 days.

Buck was born April 14, 1925, in Berryville, Ark., the son of Claude and Iva Lacy Jones. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for four years, and also served one year in the U.S. Army.

Buck married Lorraine Evelyn Petty on June 20, 1947, in the Beitel Memorial Lutheran Church in San Antonio. He retired from Civil Service at Kelly AFB, after 30 years of faithful service as an electrical engineer. After retirement, Buck loved to travel and fish. He always enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, especially when full-time RV-ing. Buck was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and we will all miss him, said his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Perfect Union Lodge No. 10, the Scottish Rite Lodge, and the VFW Post 8555.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers.

Buck is survived by his beloved wife of more than 64 years, Lorraine E. Jones of Floresville; his sons, Larry J. Jones and wife Marcia of Floresville and Jack L. Jones and wife Sylvia of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Jacy Gorzell, Jenette Wiatrek, Matthew Jones, and Brian Jones; his great-grandchildren, Blaine and Brett Gorzell and Stella Wiatrek; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

A graveside Masonic service, with military honors, was held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, with Kelly Tankersley, S.A.M., officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Matt Jones, Blaine Gorzell, Alvin Gorzell, Brian Jones, Jim Wiatrek, and Tim Riddle.
