Floresville FFA has been very busy this fall getting ready and competing in leadership development events. The teams competed on Nov. 8 in the Guadalupe Valley District Contests and the Area VII FFA Contests held Nov. 16.

Floresville’s FFA Public Relations team of Hannah Sawers, Georgia Dunn, Ashlyn Talley, and Taylor Wall placed first and advanced to the Area VII Leadership Contest where they placed second. The task for this team is inform their targeted audience about the FFA. This year’s target audience is the school board. This is the fifth year in a row for this team to qualify for area and the sixth year out of the last seven. This is also the fourth time out of the last seven years for the FFA Public Relations team to qualify for state. The state contest will be held at Sam Houston State University Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3.

In the Senior Skills contest, Zeke Wiatrek, Cody Tieken, and Austin Dixon competed and placed second, advancing to the Area VII Leadership Contest where the team placed sixth. This team’s job is to perform a farm skill that people would perform on a regular basis. The skill that they have chosen is changing the blades on a lawn mower.

The Radio Broadcasting team of Brielle Brown, Dusti Milewski, and Kristin Greer placed third and missed qualifying for area by one place. This team prepared and presented a radio type show over a microphone system.

The Junior FFA Creed Speaker Julie Rakowitz placed sixth. Julie memorized the five paragraphs of the FFA Creed and then answered questions. Competing in the Senior Division was Mathieu Seguin, who placed eighth.

Floresville FFA’s Job Interview contestant Clarrissa Barthold placed seventh. This event has students go through a real-life job interview, from preparing a cover letter and resume to making a phone call to the interview itself.

Floresville FFA advisors and team coaches are Mike Billings and Mark Jarzombek. For more information about leadership teams or the FFA, contact the Floresville High School Ag Department at 830-393-5370.
