The Floresville High School November Students of the Month are Hannah Sawers and Cody Payne.

The female student of the month is Hannah Sawers, the 18-year-old daughter of Chuck and Cindy Sawers. Hannah is a member in good standing with National Honor Society. She also serves as secretary for the class of 2012. In the past two years, Hannah has taken numerous dual credit courses at FHS and will graduate with several hours of college credit.

As a member of Floresville FFA, Hannah has excelled throughout the years and is currently the organization’s president. She is a member of the FFA Public Relations and Livestock Judging teams. She has participated in all of the various FFA fund-raisers and activities and annually shows steers and hogs. Hannah earned the FFA Greenhand Degree, the Chapter FFA Degree, and the State Degree.

Hannah is currently a member of the Peanut Festival Royal Court, serving as an ambassador for the city of Floresville at festivals across South Texas.

In addition to her numerous activities and commitments through the FFA, Hannah has also volunteered her time participating in highway clean-up projects and caroling at local nursing homes.

Hannah is currently employed at Floresville South Elementary Library through the FHS work-based learning program.

Hannah has been accepted to the Range and Wildlife Management Program at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, where she will be attending school next fall.

The male student of the month is Cody Payne, the 18-year-old son of Jon and Twyla Payne.

For his efforts in the classroom, Cody has earned numerous recognitions. He received the Outstanding Student of the Year Award in Spanish III and Pre-AP World Geography. He is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society and has been named to the All A Honor Roll for three consecutive years.

As a member of the Mighty Tiger Band, Cody has been a leader among his peers. He has been the captain of the drumline for two years and was named Percussionist of the Year last spring. He has also been a member of the UIL Symphonic Band for the last three years. He previously served as the Tiger Band vice president.

This year is Cody’s second year as a member of the Link Crew. Through this organization, Cody serves as a peer mentor to incoming freshmen to assist them in making a smooth transition into high school. Cody is also a member of the varsity basketball team.

Last spring Cody worked as a Little League umpire and this past summer he spent time working with the FISD Maintenance Department. He has also volunteered countless hours assisting with the St. Anthony annual church picnic and has served as a team leader for the ACTS retreat. He has also assisted with the Floresville Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies’ Auxiliary Christmas Coat Drive.

Upon graduation in June, Cody plans to attend Texas A&M University, where he will pursue a degree in sports management.
