1918-2011

Josephine Hedwig Biemer, 93, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. She was born March 4, 1918, in St. Hedwig to Peter and Julia Ciomperlik.

Josephine spent her childhood on the family farm in St. Hedwig, and remembered fondly her early life milking cows and playing in the fields with her brothers and sisters. She was famous for her outstanding cooking skills. At various times she served as a beautician, seamstress, and even started a late-life career at a coffin factory in San Antonio.

She was married to Eugene Biemer on Nov. 16, 1937. The love of her life was her husband, with whom she conversed in English and intermittently Polish. She and Eugene spent their entire married life in the home they purchased in the first year of their marriage. She was admired by all who knew her for her courage, practicality, and independence. Josephine was healthy and active and continued to drive her own car until the final months of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her sister, Pauline Pollock; and her brother, Clifford Ciomperlik.

Josephine is survived by her five children, Virginia Pawlik, Larry Biemer of Australia, Edward Biemer and wife Mary of San Antonio, David Biemer and wife Charlene of Austin, and Paul Biemer and wife Judy of Raleigh, N.C.; and her brother, Frank Ciomperlik and wife Adeline. She is also survived by grandchildren Mark Pawlik, Deborah Pawlik, Timothy Pawlik, Lisa Niemietz, Erika Chike, Lianne Cole, Amanda Biemer, Julie Biemer, and Sarah Biemer; and great-grandchildren Kasey Pawlik, Solomon Cole, Sebastian Cole, Mark Biemer, and Sara Niemietz.

A rosary was recited Friday, Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dellcrest Funeral Home in San Antonio.

A funeral service was held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig.
