Kimberly Lynn Kotara and Shawn Vincent Avery united in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, in St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Martinez, Texas, with Father John Flannagan officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Richard and Virginia Kotara of China Grove. Kimberly is the granddaughter of Anne Kotara of San Antonio and the late Cleo Kotara, and Clara Wiatrek of San Antonio and the late Ben Wiatrek.

The groom is the son of Roger Avery of San Antonio and Cynthia Murray of Angleton. Shawn is the grandson of Arthur and Jere Porter of Schertz, Lillian Porter of San Antonio, and the late Lucy Campbell, formerly of San Antonio.

Jeanette Morrisette provided organ accompaniment. Laurie Lipscomb and Taylor Lipscomb sang the traditional “Scerdezna Matko” in Polish.

Denise Golson served as Kimberly’s matron of honor, and Emery Cruz served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Laurie Ramirez, Jennifer Hoffman, Stacey Wiatrek, Melissa Wiatrek, Connie Campbell, Cecily Kelly, Darlene Zuehl, and Lauren Balmos. Casey Golson served as junior bridesmaid, with Caitlyn Golson and Whitley Wiatrek serving as flower girls.

The bride wore a white gown with crystal-beaded embroidery which detailed the v-shaped, halter neckline that met the crossover-empire draping. The dress was a slim A-line gown with corset tieback closure and chapel-length train. The bridal bouquet was a cascade of traditional white roses with English ivy, accented with diamonds and pearls and her grandmother’s rosary.

The bridesmaids’ bouquets contained brightly mixed fall colors of lilies, roses, and Gerber daisies.

J.R. Dugi stood as Shawn’s best man. Groomsmen were Steven Nunn, Ryan Vargo, Aaron Lindsey, Josh Gonzalez, Cody Moore, Cody McWhorter, John Grimes, Josh Maddox, and Ryan Luerson. Trey Ramirez served as junior groomsman, with Pistol Ducharme and Zayden Wiatrek serving as ring bearers.

More than 500 guests enjoyed a reception held in St. Jerome’s O’Brien Hall, with traditional barbecue plates served.

After a week-long honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica, the couple will reside in Martinez.
