The members of the East Central FFA traveled to the Alamo District Contest at James Madison High School Nov. 9 in San Antonio, Texas to compete. More than 60 members of the East Central FFA comprised 21 teams for competition, for their chance to advance to the area-level competition. Teams included Public Relations, Job Interview, Ag Issues, Farm Skills, Radio Broadcasting, Job Interview, Creed Speaking, FFA Quiz, and Chapter Conducting.

These teams were coached by East Central FFA advisors Ray Pieniazek, Danny Kempen, and Lorie Kempen.

Teams advancing to area-level competition include:

•Job Interview -- Cassidy Jordan

•Radio Broad-casting--Kyle Brown, Morgan Harper, and Alexis Wagner

•Ag Issues -- Todd Bettice, Kyle Brown, Brooke Kosub, Bethany Mihalec, Loryn Noah, and Sadie Vega

•Public Relations -- Amber Kerns, Brooke Kosub, Bethany Mihalec, and Christi Schick

•Senior Chapter Conducting -- Jake Allen, Diamond Mouton-Bell, Holly Bailey, Amber Kerns, Aaron Maron, Sean Mulhollen, Christi Schick, Morgan Whittenburg, and Shawn Short.

Only one team/school may advance from district and only the top two teams in an event may qualify for area-level competition.

The Alamo District is home to Burbank, Highlands, La Vernia, Judson, James Madison, Southside, Southwest, Somerset, and East Central. Area 7 consists of chapters from Austin to the Hill Country through Smithville and back down to IH 10 to San Antonio. The Area 7 Leadership contest was held Nov. 16 in Blanco.

Only the top two teams in each event at the area level will qualify for the state contest Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at Sam Houston State University.

For more information about the East Central FFA or the Texas leadership event, contact one of the advisors at 210-581-1185 or e-mail lorie.kempen@fc.ecisd.net.
