The Red, White, and Blue 4-H Poultry Club was out and about Nov. 21 in La Vernia and Floresville for its fund-raiser “Pass the Rooster.” The Floresville group of Lindsey Startz, club secretary; Michael Schwartz, president; and Sarah Schwartz started at Animal Crossing Veterinary Hospital and ended up at Smith Propane. Michael used his favorite rooster, an Australorp named Hagrid.

In this fund-raiser, the visitor will keep a rooster for a day, or for a nominal donation, pass it on to a competitor.

The La Vernia group of Stefani and Stefan Petersen; Genesis Vann, vice president; and Laura FitzSimon, reporter, started out with Dr. David Fleitas, DDS, visited the Country Store, and ended up at the Busy Bear Day Care. Stefani supplied the rooster for this group, an Old English Game Bird named Michael. Other great supporters in La Vernia were Crisp Realty, Century 21 Realty, Phyllis at Smith Propane, Big Bear Home Center, and Patsy Ritchey with Farmers Insurance.

The communities gave wonderful support to the new 4-H Club and funds raised from “Pass the Rooster” will assist the club in club activities.

Children ages 8 to 18 may join the group that meets the second Wednesday of each month, at a place to be determined.

For more information or to join the club, call 830-393-2644.
