Beavers notch three wins in tourney
Falls City senior Wade Jimerson drives for the basket in the McMullen County Basketball tournament. The Beavers won three games and lost two to earn fifth place.
The Falls City Beavers began their varsity boys basketball season this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the McMullen County tournament, playing five games after only one full practice, due to the post-season success of the Beavers’ football team.
Head Coach Wade Lawrence and Assistant Coach Philip Zwicke were pleased with the outcome, posting three wins over Ben Bolt, Charlotte, and Kenedy. The two losses came at the hands of two very good teams --Dilley and George West.
The Beavers were set to hit the floor Dec. 13 for their home opener against Center Point and will play Friday, Dec. 16, at 4:30 p.m. at home against McMullen County.
Lawrence and Zwicke expect their three seniors --Hunter Jurgajtis, Scott Lyssy, and Wade Jimerson -- to continue to lead the Beavers in more strong performances with the help of some hungry underclassmen all getting better as the season progresses and with more practices under their belts.
